Renovation in Lake Worth, FL

In the heart of Lake Worth, Florida, a small piece of history was on the brink of being lost forever. A tiny 1920s cottage, barely 400 square feet, stood abandoned and slated for demolition. But where others saw decay, our team saw an opportunity to breathe new life into a forgotten gem. The charm of its cypress wood clapboard siding and the whispers of its past ignited our passion.
Embracing authenticity in restoration custom-milled new cypress matches the existing clapboard, ensuring seamless integration of old and new. Installing wood doors and windows and a shingled roof echoes the original design.

One of the most significant additions to the cottage was a spacious rear deck crafted from natural acacia wood. This expansion increased the living area and created a harmonious connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces. The deck features pressure-treated wood railings painted to complement the cottage’s exterior. Two small pavilions were added for storage and laundry, enhancing functionality without compromising the cottage’s compact charm. A covered pergola provides a perfect spot for catching the breeze.

Cypress, a local wood known for its durability, was used extensively in the restoration. The ceiling was transformed with scissor trusses and v-groove beadboard, creating an airy, vaulted feel. Walls are clad in wood lattice on plywood or ceramic tile, eschewing drywall for a more authentic look. A Pullman-style kitchen and antique armoires for storage maintain the simplicity of island living.

In line with our sustainability commitment, we prioritized using local materials throughout the restoration. The acacia wood deck is naturally resistant to rot and insects, reducing the need for chemical treatments.
