Working closely with the owners and their decorator, Brian McCarthy, Fairfax & Sammons transformed an apartment, whose generous size and sunny exposures were its chief selling points. The program that was set by the owners – ‘whatever you do, don’t give me my grandmother’s upper east side apartment’. What ensued was creative teamwork and collaboration that resulted in a surprising mix of fresh materials and surprising architectural details that breathed new life into the conventional apartment. The 4 bedroom apartment was gut-renovated, which involved new master bedroom, new his and her master baths and closets, new detailing and materials for the public rooms, new kitchen and breakfast room. The dining room was felt to be too large and niches were introduced.
