The Southeast Chapter of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Classical America has given us a Restoration and Renovation award for one of our projects in Palm Beach. The awards are named for Philip Trammell Shutze, the Atlanta architect whose work is revered internationally as one of the Twentieth Century’s most devoted Classicists. The awards will recognize similar individuals who are contributing to the creation of Twentieth-first century classical and traditional architecture. The opening in 2005 of a Fairfax & Sammons... office in Palm Beach reflected the firm’s growing presence in the South. Among the prestigious Florida residences with which the architects have been involved, one of the smartest is this colonnaded beach palace for the property’s owners, a media baron and his journalist wife. Remodeled from an existing house, this glittering white mansion is an impressive addition to the parade of architectural confections that lines Florida’s most prestigious thoroughfare. It occupies a slight incline between the ocean and Lake Worth, and has a private tunnel running under South Ocean Boulevard to its own Atlantic beach.
